The Idea
Our dream at the Four Winds Ranch is to bring people together from around the world in an exchange of ideas and cultures. We named our ranch after the four winds for this very reason, as this is part of the Native American belief - all Nations and all Colors.
The multi colored medicine wheel in our Logo stands for this idea and includes all four base colors; red for the red nations, black for the black nations, white for the white nations and yellow for the yellow nations.
The Celtic Cross signifies where we, the owners of the ranch come from - from a European Celtic heritage and it is as much for us a sign of unity as the native American medicine wheel is to the original owners of this land.
Our wonderful surroundings in the beautiful and peaceful Black Hills, makes the perfect place for you to enjoy a vacation of a different kind. One that includes the opportunity to experience an inter cultural exchange with people who at the outset, appear to have a different way of thinking and a different understanding of the world we all share.
Our aim is for you to leave our ranch not only refreshed, but with a greater understanding of these different cultures. We usually find that once you take away any communication problems and lack of understanding, there is not such a big difference between us all.
( After lots of e-mails from tribal members and some concerned german indian specialists I have to add on, that we are not a bunch a wanna bees, trying to make a buck, we really believe to make a difference in this still very complicated living together thing. On this place we also want to thank the Tribal Office of the Pine Ridge and Rosebud Reservation, for their support and especially our friends, Elmer Bear Eagle, Porky Red Cloud, Nita Bald Eagle, Lesslie Trueblood, Dakota Hollow Horn Bear and his family, The people of the Little Wound School, Dave American Horse, Dave Hanson & Sonja Holy Eagle, The Oglala Lakota College, the Hoco Ka in Rapid City and all the great people we met over the years for their tips.)
Special thanks to Sonny Richards a good friend and mentor
Come join us in a great experience about life!
