Ranch owner Tom Steuer, who formerly lived in the German state of Bavaria, began to reach back into Bavaria's pre-German customs, back to its Celtic past. After coming to South Dakota and learning among the Lakota Sioux, he came to believe that answers to many of life's questions could be found not only by appealing to one's own roots, but that one could use other beliefs to regain one's spirituality. Four Winds Ranch offers both a relaxing vacation and an open-format spiritual forum amid South Dakota's mystical Black Hills. Four Winds Ranch is happy to receive guests of any spiritual background, though we do not regard ourselves as a New Age Ranch. It is important to open your mind to the beliefs of others, so you may discover that in the end we are all human beings.

This new ranch offers an eclectic
approach to spirituality. Instead of guiding the guests
down a pre-assigned path towards an established goal, the
philosophy of this ranch is to foster an open discussion
among the guests, owners, employees, and special friends
from the Lakota Sioux, Oneida from Canada and different
tribes from all over the world.
